6. Competitive Situation
6.1 Direct Competitors
6.1.1 Lavender Bakery
Lavender is a boutique bakery and bistro established in June 2000 inspired by the pleasant scent and beauty of the Lavandula Plant.
Since then lavender Bakery has been revolutionizing the traditional trade of bakery by using a combination of fine ingredients, artisan techniques and modern technology. Every morning a fascinating array of breads, pastries and cakes are created fresh and indulged by the appreciative many. From a Japanese Anpan to a French baquette, there is always a new recipe fermenting in their bakery to pique consumer’s curiosity and satisfy consumer’s appetite.
6.1.2 The Baker’s Cottage
The Baker's Cottage (TBC) was established in 1994. It is a subsidiary of Leong Hup Holdings Berhad, a public listed company on the main board of KLSE. As a manufacturer of premium cookies, mooncakes and frozen dough, The Baker's Cottage was set up to tap the bakery industry as our market study show good prospects in the industry which grossed an annual turnover of RM 30 million in 2004. Its products are distributed through its retailing channel, Baker's Cottage Confectionery Sdn Bhd(BCC), which to date has 26 outlets.
The Baker’s Cottage specializes in the production of buns, pastries, cakes, cookies, mooncakes and frozen dough. Their products are known for their distinctive quality and taste. Using only the freshest natural ingredients concocted using traditional recipe and stringent quality control, our products are not only wholesomely nutritious but also of consistent quality with value for money. Hence, the tagline "Traditional Goodness You Can Taste".
6.1.3 The Loaf Bakery & Bistro
The Loaf is a lifestyle bakery and bistro, which is opened its first outlet in the picturesque setting of Telaga Harbour, Langkawi Island in 2006. Since its opening, the outlet has gradually gained popularity to both tourists and islanders alike. The Loaf currently has a few outlets in Malaysia.
The premium breads and pastries at The Loaf are made daily using traditional Japanese techniques. These hand-crafted artisan products use only the finest quality, natural and chemical-free ingredients in their preparation. In line with the company's philosophy, all its products are made from high quality imported and local ingredients.
The breads and pastries are available for dine-in or take-away. The Loaf also offers a full range of à la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus for those who appreciate a dining experience in a relaxed ambience.
6.2 Indirect Competitors
6.2.1 Big Apple Donuts & Coffee
On the 2nd of May 2007, Big Apple Donuts & Coffee established itself in Malaysia with the opening of its first store at The Curve. It is wholly owned by Big Apple interasia Sdn Bhd, a parent company with several subsidiaries under its corporate umbrella. Its trademark store can be found in almost all major shopping malls across the country, and immediate plans are underway to expand to China, Thailand, Vietnam and the Middle East.
This is the brand promise from the fastest growing food and beverage chain in Malaysia - Big Apple Donuts & Coffee. With more than 15 years of baking experience, the founder has managed to create a special mouth-watering donut recipe said to contain 20 secret ingredients. From a simple store in The Curve back in 2007, it has expanded to 31 stores in just two years, capturing the hearts of thousands of donut lovers all over Malaysia. It is estimated that more than 3 million Big Apple donuts are sold in Malaysia each month.
